Kassidy - Waking Up Sideways
Four guys and Glasgow. These are the foundations that created Kassidy. March saw them release their debut album Hope St. - which they then took out on tour across the country in April. And as the record's name might suggest, this is a band for whom optimism is a key element.
And it's that sense of optimism that comes across chiefly in their new single Waking Up Sideways. On the surface, the track is a classic bit of radio friendly pop/rock, all delicately strummed acoustic guitar that builds slowly to the chorus.
So far, so pleasant. In its best moments, the song recalls Echo & The Bunnymen, especially in the string laden middle-eight.
This is a real lad's song, if ever there was such a thing - affected with that pub-singer intimacy, yet paired with all the quality you'd expect from a band who know their art. The track encompasses all the affectations and charms of a singer-songwriter sound, but with the scope that a full band brings.
Waking Up Sideways is released on the 27th June.
